Fixing Stringing with Pro PETG

John Schneider

PETG strings more than PLA. These are the most common fixes, in order.

  1. Dry the filament. Moisture is the most common cause of PETG stringing. Dry at 65°C for 8–12 hours. See Drying and storage.
  2. Calibrate pressure advance. It reduces pressure in the nozzle before travel moves.
  3. Lower the temperature 5°C at a time. Stay within 245–265°C, and stop if the finish turns matte.
  4. Tune retraction in small steps, then print a retraction test model to check.

Some fine wisps on travel moves are normal for PETG and brush off easily, or pop off with a quick pass of a heat gun.
