Single-nozzle printers
Use Pro PCTG as its own support material. Don't run PLA and Pro PCTG through the same nozzle. Pro PCTG is much more viscous than PLA, so when it follows PLA it punches through the middle of the leftover PLA and comes out coated in a thin PLA skin, like a sausage casing. That PLA skin sits between layers and keeps them from bonding, so parts come out weak.
Multi-nozzle printers
On printers with separate nozzles or toolheads (Bambu Lab X2D, H2D, H2D Pro, H2C, Prusa XL, Snapmaker U1), PLA makes an excellent breakaway support interface because Pro PCTG doesn't bond to it.
- We've tested our Standard PLA+, printed at 240°C.
- Use our breakaway profiles together: they print the support structure in Pro PCTG and use PLA+ only for the interface layers. Keep the support base set to Pro PCTG.
- Turn chamber heating off, or the PLA can soften and jam.
Fixing support problems
- Stringy or crumbling supports: slow supports to about 60 mm/s and interfaces to about 50 mm/s.
- Small parts floating on the PLA interface: slow the interface and bridges, and lower bridge fan speed.
