First Layer Problems and Prints Turning to Spaghetti

John Schneider

Spaghetti means the print came loose from the plate or the printer stopped extruding properly partway through. Work out which one first: a print that's knocked loose shows a clean break at the plate, and an extrusion problem shows thin, gappy, or missing layers before it fails.

Check the profile first

  • Is the Tough Pro PLA+ profile actually selected? After importing, our profiles appear under User Presets > Custom in the filament list. A generic PLA profile prints too cold for Tough Pro PLA+.
  • Bambu Studio import steps: File > Import > Import Configs, then select the downloaded file. See How to import profiles into Bambu Studio.
  • Using the right nozzle size? Profiles are tied to a specific printer and nozzle.

If the print comes loose

  • Wash the plate with hot water and dish soap.
  • Use smooth PEI if you have it, with the bed at 45–60°C.
  • Check your Z offset. Gaps between first-layer lines mean the nozzle is too high; rough, plowed lines mean it's too low.
  • Slow down the first layer.

If extrusion stops partway

See Clogs and heat creep, and make sure the filament is dry.

Still stuck? Contact our support team with a photo of the failed print, your printer and nozzle, your slicer, and the profile you used. A project file (.3mf) helps most.
