Clogs, Jams, and Heat Creep with Tough Pro PLA+

John Schneider

Heat creep

Heat creep happens when heat travels up from the nozzle and softens the filament before it reaches the melt zone. The softened filament bulges and jams. If this happens, lower the temperature. Our PLA products are less prone to heat creep than many, but it can happen above the recommended temperature. Learn more about heat creep.

Other causes

  • Wet filament can contribute to clogged nozzles. See Drying and storage.
  • Partial clog: clear it with a cold pull or with our 3D Clean purging filament.

Spool problems

If the filament has bulges, an uneven diameter, or an unusual color or sheen, stop using that spool and contact us with a photo of the spool label, which has the lot number. We'll make it right. See How to request help with a possibly defective spool.
