Drying and Storing Standard PLA+

John Schneider

Dry filament is happy filament. Every spool of Standard PLA+ ships vacuum-sealed with a desiccant pack, so a new spool is usually ready to print.

When to dry

  • The spool has been out of its bag for a while, especially in a humid room.
  • You see stringing, popping, a rough surface, or filament that snaps on the spool.

How to dry

  • Temperature: 50°C
  • Time: 6–8 hours

Don't go much hotter. PLA softens above about 55°C, and the filament can stick together on the spool.

How to store

Store spools in an airtight container or the resealable bag with desiccant. Stored dry, Standard PLA+ keeps for years.
