Standard PLA+ is the right choice for most everyday prints: prototypes, models, display pieces, organizers, cosplay, and multi-color prints. Here's when to use it, and when another 3D-Fuel material is a better fit.
Choose Standard PLA+ when you want
- Easy, predictable printing. It's made from 100% virgin NatureWorks Ingeo 4043D PLA with no fillers or stretchers.
- Lots of colors. 40 colors, including clear, metallic, fluorescent, and glow-in-the-dark. See Colors and specialty finishes.
- Multi-color printing. The broad color range and AMS-compatible spool make it a natural fit for the Bambu Lab AMS.
- A breakaway support interface for Pro PCTG on multi-nozzle printers. See Using Standard PLA+ as a support interface for Pro PCTG.
Choose Tough Pro PLA+ when
- The part will be dropped, snapped, clipped, or hit. Tough Pro PLA+ is 8.8× tougher than Standard PLA+.
- The part needs better heat resistance. Tough Pro PLA+ handles heat better and can be annealed for more.
See Tough Pro PLA+ vs. Standard PLA+: Which Should I Use? for a side-by-side comparison.
Choose Pro PCTG when
- The part will live outdoors, in a hot car, or anywhere above about 55°C. Standard PLA+ starts to soften at its glass transition temperature of 55–60°C.
- The part needs to flex and spring back many times. PLA tends to stay bent under load.
Do I need an enclosure?
No. Standard PLA+ prints well on open-frame and enclosed printers. On enclosed printers, opening the door or lid helps keep the hotend cool. See Extruder load errors, clogs, and heat creep.
