Start Here: The 5 Essentials for Printing Standard PLA+

John Schneider

Standard PLA+ is our everyday PLA: easy to print, available in 40 colors, and made in Fargo from 100% virgin NatureWorks Ingeo PLA. Get these five things right and most prints come out clean the first time.

  1. Use our profile if we have one for your printer. We publish Standard PLA+ profiles for most Bambu Lab printers and the Snapmaker U1. See Standard PLA+ print profiles. No profile for your printer? See Settings for printers without a profile.
  2. Print hotter than generic PLA. Standard PLA+ has no fillers, so it prints 5–10°C hotter than many budget PLAs. Our range is 220–250°C. On today's fast printers, start at 240°C.
  3. Start on a clean PEI plate. A heated bed isn't required, but 60°C on smooth or textured PEI is very reliable. Wash the plate with hot water and dish soap if prints stop sticking.
  4. Look for a glossy finish. At the right temperature and speed, Standard PLA+ prints glossy. A matte, rough finish usually means you're printing too fast for the temperature. See Matte, rough, or weak prints.
  5. Keep it dry. Dry at 50°C for 6–8 hours if a spool has been sitting out, and store it sealed with desiccant. See Drying and storage.
