Standard PLA+ Settings for Printers Without a Profile

John Schneider

We publish Standard PLA+ profiles for many printers, but we can't cover every brand, model, and upgrade. If your printer isn't listed, start from your slicer's generic PLA profile and change these settings.

Recommended settings

Setting Recommendation
Nozzle temperature 220–250°C. Start at 240°C on modern high-speed printers, or 230°C on slower printers.
Bed temperature 0–60°C. A heated bed isn't required, but 60°C makes adhesion much more reliable.
Bed surface Smooth or textured PEI, Bambu Cool Plate or High Temp Plate, heated glass, blue painter's tape, BuildTak, or WhamBam.
Print speed 60–250 mm/s. Above about 150 mm/s, raise the temperature.
Part cooling On, as you would for any PLA.
Drying 50°C for 6–8 hours, only if needed.

Why Standard PLA+ prints hotter than generic PLA

Standard PLA+ is made from 100% virgin NatureWorks Ingeo PLA with no fillers. Many budget PLAs include fillers that let them print cooler. Our older recommendation of 190–210°C was written for slower, older printers. On today's fast printers, even 220°C is often too low.

Temperature and speed go together

The faster you print, the less time the filament spends in the hot nozzle. If you speed up, raise the temperature too.

  • Glossy finish: your temperature and speed are well matched.
  • Matte finish: usually fine, unless you're printing far too fast. Then the filament can't melt in time, and the printer may report extruder load errors.

See Matte, rough, or weak prints and Extruder load errors, clogs, and heat creep.
