3D Clean and Cold Pulls

John Schneider

3D Clean is a purge material, not a cold-pull material. It's designed to be extruded through the nozzle.

That said, some customers do use it for cold pulls, because it expands and grabs what's inside the hotend. They tell us it works better than a cold pull with their regular filament. Results vary.

If you do a cold pull

  1. Push filament down so it fills the nozzle cavity.
  2. Turn off the heater and let it cool below about 150–160°C.
  3. Pull the filament out. You should have a cast of the inside of the nozzle.

When not to

Don't cold pull on high-flow or split-flow nozzles. See High-flow, small, and large nozzles.
