3D Clean FAQ

John Schneider

What temperature should I use?

The printing temperature of the material you're purging out, or 230°C, whichever is higher.

Will it damage my nozzle?

No. It's non-abrasive and contains no glass fibers.

Does it foam?

No. It expands slightly in the hotend to fill the space, but it doesn't foam.

How much should I use?

Until it runs translucent and milky. That's about half a stick for a simple color change, or several sticks for a difficult material change.

Can it clear a complete clog?

No. It needs somewhere to flow. See When nothing comes out.

Is it for cold pulls?

It's a purge material. See 3D Clean and cold pulls.

How many sticks are in a tube?

50 sticks of 1.75 mm or 35 sticks of 2.85 mm, about 25 g, packed with desiccant.

Can I use it in an AMS?

Yes, with a spool. It isn't the most practical way to use 3D Clean, in our opinion, but some customers love keeping a spool loaded so it's ready for material changes.

Do I need it if I always print the same material?

Usually not. See How often should I clean my nozzle?

How is it different from other cleaning filaments?

Many cleaning filaments are just HDPE or nylon. 3D Clean blends polymers of different densities for a soft scrubbing action, and it expands slightly to reach the walls of the hotend.
