Weak Layers, Delamination, and Crackling Parts

John Schneider

The most common PET-CF problem: parts look great, but layers peel apart easily or the part crackles when you squeeze it. That means the layers didn't get enough heat to bond.

Fixes, in order

  1. Raise the nozzle temperature into our 290–310°C range. Many PET-CF presets are too cool for our PET-CF. Testing found 305°C nearly tripled layer adhesion over 285°C. See How print temperature affects strength.
  2. Turn off the part-cooling fan, or keep it at 20% or less.
  3. Slow down. More time in the nozzle means a hotter, better-bonded extrusion.
  4. Use a warm chamber if your printer is enclosed.
  5. Dry the filament. See Drying and storage.
