Finding and Reading Your Spool’s Lot Number

John Schneider

Every 3D-Fuel spool has a label with a lot number. It's the most useful thing you can send us when you need help with a spool.

Where to find it

Look for the label on the side of the spool. The lot number looks something like 11-A1501-U201-2211. Some newer labels also show a short serial number (S/N).

What it tells us

From the lot number we can look up:

  • Which product and color it is (the A1501 in the example is the SKU)
  • When it was made
  • Which production line made it and who ran it
  • The raw material lot it came from

That lets us check for any known issue with that production batch, compare your spool with others from the same run, and tell how old a spool is.

When to send it

Include the lot number, or a clear photo of the whole label, any time you contact us about a print problem or a possibly defective spool. See How to request assistance with a possibly defective spool.

Tip: if you move filament into a dry box or a different container, snap a photo of the label first.
