Why does Pro PCTG cost more than some other filaments?

Great question, and one we hear a lot. Pro PCTG is $29.95 per kilogram on 3dfuel.com. Here's what goes into that price.

Printer profiles

PCTG existed before we started making it, but very few people knew about it or how to print it. We've built tested profiles for more than 30 printers, all in-house. That takes $30,000 to $50,000 worth of printers used almost entirely for profile development. You can find them in our Pro PCTG Print Profiles.

Almost nobody needs help printing PLA. PCTG is newer, so we spend real time answering questions, making guides and working with creators.

Colors

We offer 60 colors of Pro PCTG and 8 colors of Pro PCTG-GF. Each color is matched for us by a U.S.-based colorant manufacturer, and we have to buy at least 100 pounds of every color. Some colorants cost $30 a pound or more, and some colors take years to use up. We carry them because print farms and makers need very specific shades.
